Evelyn Porter's variety of working styles with diverse subjects demonstrates her philosophy of art, showing us that change is synonymous with growth...with the freedom to investigate new media and experiment with a variety of techniques and styles.  This freedom encourages the artist to play with ideas about reality and fantasy, and exploring how they ebb and flow one into the other.

Porter creates abstractions of the realities she studies and new discoveries lead to successive refinements and illuminations of familiar themes.

Since her early training at Carnegie Tech (BFA, Painting and Design), the University of Pittsburgh (M.Ed. Art Education), Pratt Institute and the SUNY at Purchase, NY; Porter has transferred her love of line, color, nature, and architecture onto canvas and papers.  Her concern for the preservation of landmark buildings nurtured her study of architectural detail while, of these recurrent themes, nature remains her favorite model.

Porter's professional career began as a window display artist at a major Pittsburgh, PA department store and has ranged through illustration and freelance graphic  design to teaching at grade school, high school and college levels.  She continues to conduct adult education programs.

Porter's work has been widely exhibited in solo, juried and invitational juried shows and has received numerous awards throughout the United States.
